UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM in Classroom Teaching
Faculty of Education, Department of Basic Education, Classroom Teaching program was established to
train primary school teachers who adopt innovative and creative teaching methods, integrate education
and technology, and have high-level communication skills. The main goal of the program is to train
prospective teachers with the qualities that will improve the quality of education in every institution
they will work in the future.
The interdisciplinary approach and the core curriculum, which form the basis of education at Bilkent
University, are especially critical for the classroom teaching infrastructure. Accordingly, an
undergraduate program that draws on a variety of disciplines has been developed, and students are encouraged
to take courses ranging from art to technology, from the history of civilization to the sciences. Students
will also take their first step into teaching through practicums and work in schools.
The program aims to enable students to follow the literature on an international scale. This education model
will prepare the ground for graduates to work in public schools as well as private schools in Türkiye
and educational institutions abroad that implement international programs.
Students will take courses in educational science, computer applications and mathematical thinking in the
first year, building on this foundation in the second year with courses in instructional technologies and methods,
assessment, physical activity and literacy instruction. The third year focuses on professional communication, ethics,
school management and school experience. Teaching practice, guidance and research methods courses form the backbone
of the fourth year.
