POLS 4568 Urban Politics

Brief introduction to urban politics at the global level, followed by Third World urbanization and urban politics in the Third World, with a focus on the Turkish case. Effects of mass migration, and hence rapid urbanization, on urban politics. Politics defined broadly as any attempt to grasp and exercise power in the context of unequal relationships. Inequalities in the city, including gender, ethnicity and class, and the role of migration in restructuring or challenging them in the urban context. Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: 6.
