IR 4142 Sports and Global Relations

This course looks at sport as a global activity in all its social, cultural, political and economic aspects. Its primary focus is elite sport rather than physical education. The starting point is the emergence of modern sport in 19th Century Britain, but the approach will be global. We will explore sports' role in global affairs: how it has been used by various actors - from states to individuals - to push various agendas in the international arena.
