PHIL 521 History of Political and Educational Philosophy

The course introduces students to philosophical thinking about the relation between human nature, society and education. It focuses on the study of key texts in the history of philosophy and educational thought including Aristophanes, Plato, Descartes, Voltaire, Mill and Russell. There is strong emphasis on the development of students critical reasoning skills. Students are encouraged to think about the implications of the views discussed for their own pedagogical practice. Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: 5.
