ELIT 423 Theory and Practice of Criticism

This course explores the theoretical basis of literary criticism. Introducing students to transformative moments such as the linguistic turn, it draws attention to larger intellectual contexts that gave rise to specific literary critical practices. The course also offers exercises to help students to recognize the philosophical and historical premises of their own practices of criticism. Authors may include Althusser, Saussure, Barthes, Foucault, Derrida, Lacan, Kristeva, and Spivak. Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: 6, Prerequisite: ELIT 217 and ELIT 222.
