ELIT 164 Concepts in Literary Studies

This course introduces students to a number of key concepts and theoretical issues in literary studies. As well as encountering the work of various literary critics and theorists, students also explore wider intellectual developments and their relationship with literature and literary studies. Topics covered may include the following: representation, narrative, voice, genre, the author, gender, ideology, culture, and race. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to demonstrate an understanding of, and an ability to think critically about, the concepts covered. Students are also expected to be able to reflect critically on their own approaches to literary texts. Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: None.
