PSYC 612 Advanced Quantitative Data Analysis
|
How can we assess happiness, poverty, or liberalism? To assess such abstract concepts, social scientists typically use various indicators, each of which however can only partly capture the underlying (i.e., latent) concept. To properly assess and therefore study phenomena that refer to latent concepts a specialized approach is needed, called latent variable modeling.
In the course we are going to focus on latent variable modeling, a family of statistical analyses that are among the most advanced, rigorous, and widely used analytical techniques in social sciences. Latent modeling includes, but not limited to, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation models, latent class and latent profile analyses and latent growth curve models.
