PSYC 375 Genes, Environment and Development in Psychology
|
This course provides an introduction to role of genetic, environmental and developmental factors and the interaction between these factors in the processes underlying normal and abnormal behavior. It introduces students to the subject areas that are considered fundamental to behavioral genetics and development, and provides growing evidence for the role of genes in shaping our behavior. The course will cover a range of mental health disorders including cognitive disability, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), anxiety and depression and schizophrenia. Students will have the opportunity to actively discuss specific issues, participate in class and present papers on the subject matter of the course. The research proposal module provides students with the opportunity to work with other members of their group to develop a research proposal to address an issue that will fill an important gap in the literature relevant to the subject matter of the course.
