Focus on the design of town centers as complex, multi-functional urban environments within larger urban systems; examination of the spatial, social, cultural, and political dynamics shaping central areas, with particular attention to core-periphery relationships and processes of transformation and densification; investigation of town centers as nodes of activity, exchange, and identity through site analysis, mapping, and design development; emphasis on multifunctionality, public space systems, density, accessibility, and the integration of transportation networks.
