HIST 527 Feudalism: East and West

Examination of the origins and development of the diverse modern concepts of 'Feudal' and 'Feudalism' from late medieval and early modern legal theory, through the Enlightenment and Marxism down to modern times. It will go on to deal with the elements of these concepts as historical phenomena in medieval and early modern Europe, and in the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires.
