Historical development and characteristics of Ottoman diplomatics, focusing particularly on the bureaucratic-institutional mechanisms that produced diverse genres in the Ottoman central bureaucracy. Particular emphasis will be made on changing priorities of the central government over periods of time from the 'classical' period to the Tanzimat.
