IR 454 International Environmental Politics
|
This course provides a comprehensive and critical account of international environmental politics. The first part covers the conventional way of analyzing the causes, consequences and resolvability of a range of international environmental problems, and focuses on regimes established by state and non-state actors to deal with issues like ozone depletion, hazardous waste, toxic chemicals, climate change, biodiversity loss, deforestation, and resources depletion. The second part of the course engages with strands of green political thought, and explores what a more ecological approach implies for how we think about issues like security, economy, the state, global governance, development, and sustainability.
