IR 4141 Current Issues in European Union Politics

The aim of this course is to provide the students with the analytical tools to analyze current issues in European Union (EU) politics through an understanding of the EU acquis (i.e. legislations, policy strategies and action plans). The course will cover current scholarly discussions and policy debates that revolve around deepening and widening of European integration process. The study of the post-Lisbon (Treaty on the European Union and the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union) institutional reforms, enlargement policy, public opinion, and EU's policy strategies to respond to international developments and the impact of EU diplomacy in the world are the main components of this lecture. Considering the dynamic nature of EU politics, the policy areas of focus of the lecture might vary from one semester to another.
