IR 361 Global Labour Issues
|
This course examines the impact of global capitalism on labor movements. It analyses how economic liberalization changed the conditions of workers worldwide, with a specific focus on erosion of social rights and weakening of trade unions and precarious forms of work. The course is composed of three parts. In the first part, we will explore the role of major state and non-state actors in the management labor politics. We will then look at the strategies of labor as a collective actor and the role of trade unions. Finally, the course explores the limits of collective action by workers.
