IR 360 Government and Politics in Central and Eastern Europe

This course will provide a survey of politics in Central and East European states, from a comparative perspective. It examines the divergence of political and economic trajectories in the region since the fall of communism and discusses contemporary political developments.
The goal of the course is to introduce students to the major themes of authoritarianism, the challenges in transition to democracy, and the importance of historical/institutional legacies in analyzing the post-communist regimes.
