IR 358 International Security
|
International security is an ever-expanding subfield of International Relations. Originally applied solely to the security of the state, the concept of security understood as the absence of threats has been broadened in recent years to include international and non-governmental organizations, individuals, the environment, cyberspace, energy, food, health, or cultural identity, among many other topics. To add to the complexity, due to the rise of China and the resurgence of Russia, the traditional study of security is also making a strong comeback. This is why this course does not aim to be comprehensive, but rather seeks to give you a strong foundation in both dominant theories and in the key issues currently being debated.
