ECON 492 Turkish and World Economy After 1960

ECON 492 will focus on Turkish economy from 1960s (Economic Planning Period), 1980s economic and financial liberalization and financial crises in 1994, 2001 and current economic problems in Turkish and world economy. Export led economic growth policies, rise of Chinese economy, the debate over recent currency and trade wars, oil crisis, rise and fall of neo liberalism in western countries and future of globalism will be discussed. Other topics will be on the sectoral policies in Turkish economy, such as Agriculture, Manufacturing, Infrastructure and Construction (PPPs). Financial sector policies Banking, Monetary and fiscal policies during the periods will be under review. Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: 5, Prerequisite: ECON 205.
