EDEB 201 Introduction to Turkish Fiction

This survey course will provide students with an introduction to influential novels in the Turkish literary canon. Each week we will read a classic works of Turkish literature and discuss the texts in relation to their socio-political context, as well as the changing structures and forms of the Turkish novel. The course will likely include writings and novels by authors such as Peyami Safa, Halide Edip Adivar, Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoglu, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar, Oguz Atay, Kemal Tahir, Yasar Kemal, Sevgi Soysal, Yusuf Atilgan, Leyla Erbil, Adalet Agaoglu and Orhan Pamuk.
Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: 5.
