PHIL 302 Social and Legal Philosophy

Based on a selection of both historical and contemporary texts, this course examines key issues in legal and social philosophy, such as: the nature of law and its relation to morality, the conditions of legitimate political authority, conceptions of rights, the limits of the authority of the state over the individual, the justification of punishment and arguments for free speech.
