HART 315 Greek Architecture

A survey of Greek building from ca. 700 BC to the 1st century BC. The Greek architectural tradition and its historical development will be emphasized (the history and nature of Doric and Ionic orders and of "Aeolic" and Corinthian styles). Materials, techniques and procedures of construction will also be covered. Sanctuary architecture provides the core material of the course but military, funerary, and ceremonial monuments will also be considered.
