AMER 487 Native American Literature

This course examines multiple genres of Native American writing, including poems, autobiographies, sermons, and political speeches, in order to explore how Native American literary traditions have developed and flourished within Native communities over the past five centuries. It also considers the ways in which Native American literatures have engaged with and responded to the European (and, later, U.S.) colonial presence in America.
