AMER 474 Colonialism and the Making of the New World

The European 'discovery' of the Americas at the end of the fifteenth century was a transformative moment in world history.
This course will explore the impact of the European exploration and colonization of the Americas from a variety of historical
and theoretical perspectives. We will give particular attention to the experiences of those exploited by the European colonial
project through the critical analysis of historical and contemporary representations of the peoples and cultures of the New World.
