This course will examine the nineteen-thirties, a crucial decade in twentieth-century United States history. We will examine the causes and consequences of the Great Depression, the New Deal of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and the political, cultural, and intellectual developments of this era. The course will emphasize a historical approach to the thirties, but will also examine the literature, film, art, and music of this decade.
