ELIT 386 Transformations: Novels between Genres, Genders, and Species
|
This course offers students the opportunity to explore late 19th and 20th century novels that cross boundaries related to genre, gender, and species. Extracts from a variety of theoretical texts related to topics such as Orientalism, postcolonial studies, the Gothic, the Uncanny, autobiography, and psychology will be studied in relation to the selected primary texts. By the end of the course, students are expected to have developed an understanding of the issues raised by these generically hybrid literary texts and to be able to use the theoretical material to enhance their analyses of them.
