Sociopolitical, cultural, and stylistic background of New Turkish Music. European influenced music life, its styles and institutionalization in Turkey beginning with the late Ottoman era. Culture politics, statist music institutionalization, polyphonic styles in the early republican and the post-war Turkey. Acting on the fault lines: stylistic polarization among first two composer generations, alaturka-alafranga and monophony-polyphony debates, nationalization-globalization dilemma, battling paradigms of the Turkish-traditional versus the international-modernized.
