MSC 323 Theory and Analysis of Sonata Forms

Focus on the Classical style: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven. A development of skills in analytical writing in music and a critical assessment of two analytical methodologies pertaining to sonata form: Hepokoski and Darcy's Sonata Theory and William Caplin's Formal Functions. Concepts developed through analysis and model composition.
