Philosophical dimensions of research and knowledge production in the social sciences, with the primary aim of helping future social science researchers to develop their critical and reflective thinking abilities. Questions to be addressed: how do we know about the world; can we trust our knowledge about the world; what is science; are the social sciences really sciences; and what are theories, how do they change, and what is the relationship between theory and the key philosophical issues of ontology, epistemology and methodology.
