MSN 523 Nanocomposites

This course is designed to provide students with a general understanding of preparation, structure and properties of nanocomposite materials, to extend their knowledge on materials science and nanomaterials about nanocomposite materials, and discuss the importance of nanocomposite materials used in nanotechnology. The first few weeks of the course will introduce metal, polymer and ceramic materials, matrices for nanocomposites. Then some approaches for preparing nanocomposite materials will be discussed and their chemical, mechanical, electrical and optical properties will be introduced. In the following weeks, applications of nanocomposites in industry and biosciences will be discussed. Students will be asked to prepare a term project on new nanocomposite materials. There will also be laboratory demonstrations and experiments on synthesis, preparation and characterization of some nanocomposite materials.
Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: 5.
