Fundamental concepts in materials science. Atom models; atomic and crystalline structure; mechanical (stress, strain, elasticity, deformation), electrical (conductivity, mobility, band structure, metals, semiconductors), thermal (heat capacity, expansion, thermal conductivity), magnetic (ferromagnetism, domains and hysteresis, magnetic storage), and optical (radiation, refraction, transmission, luminescence, photoconductivity) properties of materials. The correlation between materials structure and its micro- and macroscopic properties.
