HART 424 Religion and Society in the Ancient Near East

This course will examine formal and private religion practiced by the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia, the eastern Mediterranean, Anatolia and Egypt. Topics to be covered include religious settings (temples, shrines and outdoor cult places), iconography referring to deities and cults, and ancient texts that explain cult practices and religious beliefs. Lectures, class discussions and student presentations.
Credit units: 3 ECTS Credit units: 5.
